Keynote Presentation: Technology is Broken and How to Fix IT
10/15/2008 9:15:00 AM
James Gaskin will explain how Technology Is Broken, and that it may not be your fault. By focusing on four critical areas for businesses, Gaskin shows how to effectively put technology to work in business, and how to choose the right technology for the job at hand. The four discussion areas, laptop and mobility safety, data safety, network safety, and enhanced e-mail value, all follow Gaskin's TPT Rule: Task, Process, Tools. Using dozens of real world examples gathered during years of consulting and writing 17 technology books and thousands of articles, Gaskin balances technical frustration with laughter. Wearing Hawaiian shirts and delivering objective information stripped of marketing hype in his trademark "unbiased and unboring" style, Gaskin explains how to "un-break" your broken technology.

Keynote Presentation: Integrated Data Management: Delivering Business Value for Full-Lifecycle Data Management
10/15/2008 9:45:00 AM
In many organizations, the mandate of data management is being redefined
with greater scope, in an effort to provide end-to-end value management
across the full life cycle of data across business activities and
stakeholders. This presentation references findings from a Forrester
Research survey of IT decision makers from 20 major North American
enterprises, on the drivers and trends surrounding the management of data
"from design to deletion." Leading enterprises are evolving their data
management strategies to improve the quality of service, respond rapidly to
new, data-intensive new business opportunities, and improve support for
compliance initiatives.
In response to this trend, Integrated Data Management (IDM) provides an
integrated, modular data management environment to design, develop, deploy,
operate, optimize and govern data, databases, and data-driven applications.
Solutions and best practices for enabling collaboration and organizational
productivity, to more rapidly deliver improved quality of service and lower
costs, will be discussed. This approach spans custom and packaged
applications, diverse databases, and platforms from mainframes to Mac OS,
to maximize the business value of data.

SECURITY: Wireless LAN Security: What Hackers Know That You Don't and How to Keep your WLAN Compliant
10/15/2008 10:45:00 AM
Wireless technology is exploding in popularity. Businesses are not only migrating to wireless networking, they are steadily integrating wireless technology and associated components into their wired infrastructure. The demand for wireless access to LANs is fueled by the growth of mobile computing devices and a desire by users for continual connections to the network without having to "plug in." This explosion has given momentum to a new generation of hackers who specialize in inventing and deploying innovative methods of hijacking wireless communications. Hackers armed with MDK3, Aircrack-ng, Karma, for phishing attacks, Scapy, and other new tools are launching attacks on networks that a year ago were said to be unbreakable. Another challenging and widespread issue is the increase in rogue wireless devices like soft APs, wireless-enabled laptops, and neighboring wireless networks that may bleed over, combining hostile rogues with friendly or unconnected devices.
However, wireless LANs can be secured with a thought-out plan and proven layers of security. This discussion will provide best practices to network executives and security managers on how to confidently deploy and secure their wireless network and protect against security threats, rogue devices and policy violations.
The presentation will include:
Most common WLAN risks
Demonstration of common WLAN attacks
How to mitigate security risks
Implementing a layered approach to security
Benefits of implementing wireless intrusion prevention systemsSpeakers:

SECURITY: A look into DNS Best Practice Architecture and How to Protect your Network
10/15/2008 1:15:00 PM
I'm sure that you've been following the story regarding the new DNS security threat and its implications for the security of all Internet and network-based applications. We understand you may have already patched your servers, but want you to be aware that more patches are imminent. The new DNS exploit is receiving worldwide attention, and just last week Gartner issued the following statement:
"There are already credible reports of increased DNS cache-poisoning attacks "in the wild," which indicate that attackers are attempting to exploit this vulnerability. Emerging technical details have caused Gartner to revise its original view of the potential enterprise impact of this vulnerability and the urgency of the enterprise response to it."
So what is this all about, really? The short answer is cache poisoning. While cache poisoning is not new, Dan Kaminsky discovered a new way to exploit this vulnerability. What was thought to be too complex or time consuming for hackers to focus on has been proven unbelievably simple.
Virtually all network based applications?email, Web apps, eCommerce ? EVERYTHING is at risk.
Please join industry DNS experts from Infoblox for a deep dive into Cricket Liu's, author of O'Reilly's DNS and BIND, DNS Best Practice Architecture. We will discuss:

Do you know how many copies of data you possess in your organization? Do you know where it exists and who has access to it? Join Eric Offenberg, CIPP, from IBM for a discussion on how to protect the privacy of sensitive employee and customer data.
Privacy breaches are making headlines, as organizations scramble to protect the confidentiality of their critical customer and business data. While companies are making great strides in protecting data privacy in production application environments, the idea of implementing similar strategies in their testing environments to combat the internal threat is often overlooked. The "Privacy Gap" needs to be addressed immediately, because it often represents the most exploited area of an organization's IT infrastructure.
